I spent the weekend as the lead in a event logistics team. I helped put together a conference at the Soka Gakkai International’s Florida Nature Culture Center, a retreat for buddhists. This particular conference was targeted toward the student division and focused primarily on the abolishment of nuclear weapons.
I regularly support organizing SGI gatherings. This particular movement was a larger scale. We have 124 students from around the US in attendance. Of the 124, we had 7 primary organizers, 4 of which were logistics related.
I get a lot of value supporting these events because its non-traditional to my day-to-day activities. I come in touch with a lot of high-friction situations that require hands on decision making. I also get encouraged by the seeking spirit of the people who attend to learn about developing their own perspective on the world.
